How much is BAS in 2026?
$476.95 a month for enlisted members and $328.48 a month for officers (including warrant officers), effective January 1, 2026.
What is BAS?
Basic Allowance for Subsistence is a monthly allowance meant to cover a service member's own meals. It isn't meant for family members' food.
Is BAS taxable?
No. BAS is a tax-free allowance.
Why do enlisted members get more BAS than officers?
Enlisted BAS is set higher by law. Enlisted members on a meal card or in the dining facility may have part or all of it collected back.
Does BAS count toward a VA home loan?
Yes. VA lenders count BAS as income, and because it's tax-free some lenders may gross it up when figuring your debt ratio.
