What lenders look for

  • Re-established credit with on-time payments since the bankruptcy.
  • An explanation of what caused it (job loss, medical, divorce) and why it's behind you.
  • Stable income and reasonable residual income.

Common questions

Can I get a VA loan while in Chapter 13?

Often yes — after 12 months of on-time plan payments and with approval from your trustee or the court.

Does a prior VA foreclosure affect my entitlement?

It can reduce your entitlement until the VA's loss is repaid. We can check your COE to see where you stand.

What credit score do I need after bankruptcy?

VA has no minimum score, but lenders set their own. Rebuilding on-time history matters most.
